George Stefanakis is a Greek composer, singer, arranger, and conductor whose musical career spans more than five decades. From an early age, he felt drawn toward two lifelong inquiries: the study of music and the understanding of oneself. Throughout his artistic life, he has explored the relationship between music, poetry, and inner inquiry.
His musical studies included jazz harmony with Markos Alexiou, classical harmony with Michalis Vourtsis, and orchestral conducting with Sotos Vassiliadis. In Paris, he continued his studies in harmony and atonal music with Julien Falk.
Since 2002, Stefanakis has devoted himself almost exclusively to setting the poems of Jiddu Krishnamurti to music. What began as a musical project gradually developed into a twenty-five-year journey through Krishnamurti's poetic writings and the evolution of his thought, eventually becoming the complete musical cycle From Darkness to Light.
The project brings together music, poetry, and historical context, allowing the poems to be encountered not only as individual works but also as part of a remarkable inner journey. Through the music and accompanying notes, listeners may simply enjoy the songs, or follow the chronological development of the poems and the transformation of Krishnamurti's thought.
